Le nebbie di avalon un capolavoro assoluto? Non credo.

Premetto che oltre i fatti privati di un autore/autrice, sia per via della vita famigliare o pubblica o le convinzioni religiose o di altro genere, io leggo ogni libro che compro, decidendo in seguito se l'opera merita o va ad essere rivenduta per la cifra simbolica di 50 cent pur di non averlo in casa. Di qualunque libro, io leggo sempre più di 200 pagine, imponendomi di non smettere sotto questa soglia per essere più coerente possibile.

Ebbi modo di leggere le Nebbie di Avalon agli inizi degli anni 90, informandomi dell'autrice in un web non veloce e informato come ora,  quindi senza remore sulla sua vita. Mi avvicinai a quest'opera in un periodo dove il ciclo arturiano mi aveva rubato il cuore. Quindi ero ben disposta verso un testo che voleva darmi una visione diversa della storia di re Artu'. Posso affermare che il testo lo trovai scorrevole, dettagliato ma la storia non era nulla di che. Un testo che gioca tra fantasy e femminismo incalzante, non mancando di trovare nel cristianesimo solo orribili misfatti. L'autrice all'epoca, forse vittima di convinzioni proprie, credo più probabile, mancando di testi che oggi sono facilmente reperibili via web o nelle librerie, mancò di tratteggiare la vera essenza del culto celtico, descrivendo riti o altro come qualcosa quasi di inevitabile uscendo totalmente dalla strada del ciclo arturiano. Perché nel ciclo arturiano chi porta in sé la magia del culto celtico, vuole e pretende il potere,  sia maschi che femmine, non avendo nessuno di questi remore ad usare ogni mezzo per farlo

Trovai anche un testo che invece di giostrare tra personaggi femminili e maschili, così da mostrare a tutti un tempo, un mondo magico che va perdendosi, diventa il libro (almeno per me) un insopportabile inno femminista che del ciclo arturiano perde ogni significato. 

Quindi, in fine, questo libro lo sconsiglio a quelli, come me, incantati dal vero ciclo arturiano, quelli che di fronte al totale stravolgimento di personaggi cardini della storia originale, rompendo ogni legame con questo, si sentono ingannati dal titolo dell'opera e critiche che lo lodavano. Mentre consiglio il libro alle persone che amano lo stravolgimento della trama originale di un capolavoro come il ciclo arturiano, che leggono un testo senza preoccuparsi dei particolari storici o anche solo della mancanza di similitudini con una storia originale, se non i nomi e piccoli accenni. 

Voglio aggiungere che rispetto chi adora le opere dell'autrice delle Nebbie di Avalon, attendendo quindi uguale rispetto. Ma soprattutto, purtroppo almeno io, fin oggi non ho trovato un solo autore/autrice che abbia dato una versione diversa del ciclo arturiano, fornendo un testo che dell'assenza della storia di re Artù perde ogni riferimento. 

Se proprio devo consigliare qualcosa per andare oltre il ciclo arturiano nel libro, consiglio il film Excalibur del 1981, nel quale il mondo arturiano si ritrova in tutta la sua magia, malvagità e fragilità non perdendosi in stereotipi ma raccontando la storia di re Artù, un re sfortunato e fortunato in modo quasi parallelo.

I state that besides the private factors of an author / author, whether because of family or public life or religious or other beliefs, I read every book I buy, deciding later if the work deserves or is to be resold for the symbolic figure of 50 cents not to have it at home. Of any book, I always read more than 200 pages, forcing myself not to stop below this threshold to be as coherent as possible.

I had the opportunity to read the Mists of Avalon in the early 90's, informing myself about the author in a web not as fast and informed as now, therefore without hesitation about her life. I approached this work in a period where the Arthurian cycle had stolen my heart. So I was well disposed towards a text that wanted to give me a different view of King Arthur's story. I can say that I found the text flowing, detailed, but the story was nothing special. A text that plays between fantasy and pressing feminism, not failing to find only horrible misdeeds in Christianity. The author at the time, perhaps a victim of her own convictions, I think more likely, lacking texts that are now easily available via the web or in bookstores, she failed to outline the true essence of the Celtic cult, describing rites or other as something almost inevitable totally leaving the arcturian cycle road. Because in the Arcturian cycle those who carry within themselves the magic of Celtic worship, want and demand power, both male and female, having none of these qualms to use every means to do it

I also found a text that instead of jousting between female and male characters, so as to show everyone a time, a magical world that is getting lost, becomes the book (at least for me) an unbearable feminist hymn that loses all meaning of the Arthurian cycle.

So, in the end, I do not recommend this book to those like me, enchanted by the true Arthurian cycle, those who, faced with the total upheaval of key characters of the original story, breaking all ties with it, feel deceived by the title of the work and criticisms that praised him. While I recommend the book to people who love the overturning of the original plot of a masterpiece such as the Arthurian cycle, who read a text without worrying about the historical details or even just the lack of similarities with an original story, if not the names and small hints.

I want to add that I respect those who love the works of the author of the Mists of Avalon, therefore waiting for equal respect. But above all, unfortunately at least I, so far I have not found a single author / author who has given a different version of the Arthurian cycle, providing a text that loses all reference to the absence of the story of King Arthur.

If I really have to recommend something to go beyond the Arthurian cycle in the book, I recommend the 1981 Excalibur film, in which the Arthurian world finds itself in all its magic, wickedness and fragility not getting lost in stereotypes but telling the story of King Arthur, a unfortunate and lucky king almost parallel.
